Kind of a Big Deal (Lincoln)

So after getting a new bumper and replacing some steel studs with carbide ones our sled was ready to go again for the last race of the year, Michigan Cat 500.  Probably the second most prestigious race in oval racing, the first being the SOO.  Mike was continuing his winning ways by taking first in all of his heat races until he some how managed to high side the sled on the straight away after the checkered flag.  His sled tumbled for ever and parts were everywhere.  It took a whole lot of zipties and tape to get it going in time for the finals, one key hose clamp too that held on the

Shit Hits the fan (Caro)

Weather completely destroyed the caro track on the tuesday before the race.  In two days they mixed in enough water and snow with the mud to make something that resembled a race track.  It was so rough no champers ran but everything else did.  Mike won all of his semi pro stuff again and kev took a 1st in the pro super stock class.

So Here's the skinny (Drummond Island)

So as you can see we were well prepared for the '09 season until everything went wrong.  Long story short, Mike got his sled back together, Kev and I finished beefing up our suspension for the enduros and went to the first race at Drummond.  Just like always we didn't like our setup in Hot laps changed a bunch of stuff and eventually came back to what we started with and it worked.  Mike won every semi-pro race that he entered and I won the Pro stock class.  But I did have an incident during the 2nd heat race.  I was on MIke's sled which holeshots like a champer.  I came i

we got back to the speedshop and unloaded. got the sled inside and started checking out what was busted so we could order parts. at this point its 2 weeks until lincolns first race. heres the rundown of unusable parts, left and right trailing arms, left and right spindles, left and right skis, right carbide, stabilizer bar, left and right shocks, handlebars, steering post, windshield, headlight cover, console, buttrest, kickpan and taillight. the tunnel got a few dent but was usable. so first thing i did was order parts.

on otis lake everything was working well. the sled was a bit aggressive and had ski lift but it was still showing 78mph on our little track. thats not too shabby. after i was happy with it making around 50 laps, we desided to give jeff a try. he is our newest driver and hasnt made many laps yet. we gave him some instructions and he was off. he entered turn one and two and looked ok, then he hit the back straight away, im not sure if he was expecting the sled to be that quick or what but he entered 3 HOT!

heres how it started. i worked very hard all summer to create one the best sleds that has ever left our shop. i made improvements like moving the front heat exchanger to the rear, 116" camoplast 9996 track (a $1044 value), pure teflon hyfax ($50ea uncut), lightweight accord racing razor studs (free :) ), 10t extrovert drivers, and more. heres where the problem occurs, last year we had test ice much sooner than usual. my sled had been done for 2 weeks and the ice was blown clean. we decided to go out to otis lake with some cones and do some testing.

Season end

Here is just a quick update now that we have a chance to update the site again.  LMB had the best season yet.  Mike swept all of the semi pro classes.  Me and Kev took a first each in pro sprints and then finished the season by winning the Michigan Cat 500 Pro Enduro.  I'll get more detailed descriptions of the races and results out when I catch back up on school work.

Video Mike put his Snowtrails TV episode up on the web about the 40th annual soo I-500.  Me and Kev got some air time on the #10 sled.  Doug, the owner of the sled, got some press too but not the good kind.

Check it out.    http://snowtrailstv.com/video-snippets/40th-i500-snowmobile-race/

Big riggin'

The rear suspension is done.  The #5 sled will be rollin' on eighteen this winter.  Wha What!!!       More suspension, improved lube system, extra rollers, locking collar bearings, .020" side press on the rest of the bearings.  Its going to be sweet.

I need to start tearing into the front end and pound that out.  I really want to have the sled done before the first of the year.  Mostly because we may be able to test at Lincoln on the 3rd of January but even if that doesn't happen I don't want to not be freakin' out.

here we go again

originally my plan was to buy a fox zero shock, shorten it and use it to fix my rear suspension problem. the problem was that the shock bottomed before the rubber bumpers hit. thats a for-sure shock failure if that happens. anyway got it, shortened it and tried to put it back together. problem: the new shorter shock body with the same stroke leaves no room for the IFP. solution: remote reservior. couldnt find the remote anywhere except new for $170. i may be the king of overkill but with racing i try not to let money fly out the window very often.

top secret

Submitted by Mike on Sun, 2008-11-30 16:06.

wow, that was one early saturday. i talked to the cnc guy and he said this saturday would work for cutting the skis. we wanted to get there early so no one would bother us or know what was going on. we decided on 6am. the skis went well. i think the cnc guy was a little cautious but they got done just in time. at 9 am LMB speedshop was finishing our section of snowmobile trail. i was actually a bit late for that. the worst part is the boumans actually beat me. they are never on time but of coarse this time was different. after trails i got back to work on the skis and finished them.
