Progress?

Submitted by Eric on Fri, 2008-09-19 01:34.

Yes, the #5 sled is actually making progress.  Two cuts and then two welds and the rear skid can be fully assembled.  The motor is in the chassis, trued and torqued.  Track is under the sled, drivers in and chaincase sealed.

Yet to come: front suspension, kickpan, buttrest, and handlebars.

coming soon

my solid chromemoly trailing arms are finally done. after years of research and testing, months of designing and fitting, weeks of welding, days of anticipation, hours of stress relieving, and minutes of painting they are DONE. hope to install on SpeedShop night this wednesday. please cross your fingers that everything fit right and functions flawlessly.

the SpeedShop is going to get a very nice 19' x 36" oak workbench top. hoping to install in the coming week. its 1 3/4" thick and weighs around 350lbs. im going to try and put a rubber top on it to keep it looking awesome. this will also give me a chance to mount the two new vices that i baught a year and a half ago.

the speedshop lives

after kind of a relaxed wednesday the true pioneers of lmb speedshop stepped up and got alot done. saturday proved to be a very productive day. i got my custom hyfax done and kev and eric did rear skid work. after the 5 hours at jk, kev and i werent done. we welded up the shock tower crack on #5. kev also installed the motor and trued it up to the chassis. then he put the track on and assembled the chaincase. we adjusted the oil pump and and installed the oil tank. for the #05 im hoping to see some studs this week. that would complete the rear end of the sled. i got one of my trailing arms back from micro precision welding and the other should be here in a week.

jeff back on the team

Submitted by Mike on Thu, 2008-08-21 20:00.

hey, jeff showed up.
#05 tracks drilled, Woodys studs are here except for the new ones. im looking for some studs that are diffrerent that may help my rotating weight and wind resistance. ive hand sharpened all of my studs and trimmed the backers because they were taller than needed. running different studs on the rh side because of the extra load on that edge. rear suspension is revalved based on data from last years racing. rails are shorter and lighter. wahl was nice enough to ship me some blank rails so i could machine to my specs. making new hyfax out of t**** 1*** because of its incredible wet friction property just slightly above teflon.

Government work

Been doing alot of machining for various suspension parts on our sleds.  Spacers, shafts, and a few reinforcement plates/gussets.  And its all free.  Got a few things to weld and then the rear skid is ready for final assembly.  Pretty quick we will be able to mock up the suspension mounts that need to be welded to the trailing arms.

Good progress for the #5 sled.  I'll let Mike tell you about his #05 sled.

lmb has also been working on rounding up parts for the soo sled. we hope to test for more miles than the race is. we will be analyzing suspension, EFI tuning, pipes, driver comfort, and track choice. look for us iat the soo in 2010 and some '09 MIRA races. we have already landed a ride for the '09 soo i-500. we appreciate all of kammi 10's help and look forward to a better than 5th place finish.

first blog in a while

the speedshops been on fire with activity for months now. after the last race we were so excited that we never really quit working on the sleds. the speedshop has been upgraded with a new 750 watt fisher stereo and 4 floor speakers. 2 10" and 2 12" cerwin vega units coupled with a 300 disc changer. the 10's are currently out of order due to a blowout but parts are on the way. i really enjoy working on the sleds without the old boom box distortion.

on a sled mod note, sled is lighter, better clutched, better stud layout, new track, better driver comfort, new rear skid, new front end, improved cooling, and better tuned motor. with all the new stuff we have to find some ice before lincoln in order to continue our winning record.

Thats as far as she goes

The #5 sled has reached its limit.  It is not possible to break it down into any more pieces.  Now over the course of the next few months the rebuiliding process begins.  We have definately gone over and above this year, but what do you expect when our motto is "the only way is all the way"  Plus we started early enough this year (we never really stop to be honest) that we might have some time for some cosmetic work.  Some polish, fancy stickers, and some bling.

The #05 has again managed to drop a few more pounds.  Now the dilema is how to make it bite harder in the corner.  Suspension change? More studs? We are trying alittle bit of everything this year so test time will be crucial. Hopefully the #5 and #05 get wrapped up soon enough to start into the IQ.  That will be a whole new headache to design and fabricate.  Hopefully the new stuff won't break so often.

THE ONLY WAY IS ALL THE WAY!!!!!

The team has been making some progress.  Starting early this season.  We have dedicated every wednesday as SpeedShop night so that way at the minimum we work on sleds once a week.

#5 sled is having the rear suspension upgraded and rebuilt.  Motor checked out.  New radius rods and aurora heim joints(the expensive ones so they won't break.  Track replaced. Shock rebuild as well for more travel.

#05 is getting beefed up.  It was fast last year, now it just needs more comfort for the driver and more strength.  Still tore down to the frame though in typical Mike fashion.

"Off " Season

Submitted by Eric on Tue, 2008-05-06 16:33.

We got the rear skid out of the #5 sled, going to add some more suspension travel now that we are committing to Enduros.  Also going to add some more idler wheels where ever possible after seeing how well #05 faired with the extra wheels.  Rerunning the slide lube dispensers as well.  Also thinking that we should rebuild the motor since it has a couple thousand miles on it now.  Might need a new track as well.  the outside row of lugs is deteriorating pretty fast and won't last another season.  If we are going Pro might as well go all out.  Mike is again going all out and is going to try a whole new setup almost.
