Soo I-500 Weekend

Submitted by Eric on Wed, 2008-02-06 02:25.

We left Wednesday night late for the Soo which sucked because there was black ice on all of the roads.  We drove 50mph all the way up.  On Thursday they were still running qualifying because of the weather delays earlier in the week.  Me and Kevin each got about 8 laps on the track for practice.  It was pretty intense riding someone else's sled with a mod motor on a one mile track.  Everything went good though and we got alot of compliments from race officals.  Doug Kammeraad started the race in   4th position.  Tom Spomer got on second at lap 50 or so.  He ran until lap 150ish w

Quick Race Recap

Here is a quick race recap of the Lincoln Michigan Cat 300 before we head to the Soo.  We'll get pictures and video footage up within a week or two.

Semi-Pro Stock Sprint Final- #5 Eric Bouman-2nd, #05 Mike Lynema-DNF(Last lap crash after battling for lead)

Semi-Pro SuperStock Sprint Final- #5 Kevin Bouman-2nd, #05 Mike Lynema-3rd

Semi-Pro Open Sprint Final- #5 Kevin Bouman-1st, #05 Mike Lynema-2nd

Semi-Pro SuperStock Mini-Enduro-  #05 Eric Bouman-1st, #5 Kevin Bouman-2nd

Pro SuperStock Enduro- #5 Eric Bouman, Kevin Bouman, and Tom Spomer-7th.  We qualified 3rd and were running 4th all day until the throttle cable broke on lap 220 of 300.  Fell back to 7th.  We would have finished in 3rd if the cable hadn't broken because the leader also had mechanical issues.

Down to the wire

Looks like the cold weather arrived in time to salvage the first Lincoln race and should make for a good Soo track.  We had our meeting last saturday with Kammi.  We practiced some pitstops and now I can't contain my excitment!

As for our sled, we got alot done last weekend, and by the end of this weekend we will have a race ready sled.  All the parts are in now and I'm heading home tommorrw to work on it for awhile too.  We are to going to try out an adjustable front rail shock and see how that works for us.  We will have new quick change skis for this year along with a quick fill can too.   And to top it all off Tom Spomer will be riding with us at Lincoln, which we be good for us b/c we will get some feedback on our sled setup and get used to racing with Tom as he will also be riding with Kammi as a backup at the Soo.  The next update won't be till the sled is done.

The end is near

The sled is dangerously close to being finished.  Everything is done but the front end alignment.  We are waiting on steering rod ends to finish that.  We also have another sponsor, Burchett Qualtiy Tool ltd.

Merry Christmas!!!

the sled is getting dangerously close to firing.  All that is left to do is put the skid in, align the motor, and align the front suspension.  I'm sure the little things will take some time though.  Mike fired his already but still hasn't gotten the skid in it.  We also received a letter from SuperSeer announcing their support for our team this season.  THANKS SUPERSEER.  There are a few more days left of break so hopefully the sled will be on the ground atleast before I head back to school.

A Christmas Miracle

Submitted by Eric on Mon, 2007-12-17 23:25.

We finally got enough snow this past weekend to get the trail sled out.  There was even a drift deep enough for me to bury my sled.  :(  Not the work out I wanted.  Hopefully I'll have enough time during break to get the race sled done, atleast a majority of it.  It'd be a Christmas miracle if it made laps before new years.  Should have all of the parts, we'll see how it turns out.

Mike on the other hand has been running circles around us.  Once his skid is in he's ready to burn cirlces.

LMB SpeedShop is proud to announce Fatheadz.com sunglasses as a Platinum Sponsor for the '08 MIRA oval racing season.  We look forward to a successful year with their support.  Continuing the good news, the cold weather has arrived.  Only problem was that we were still pounding in trail markers which becomes quite difficult when the ground is frozen and the snow is blowing in your face.  Wiring on our sled should be buttoned up this week.  The track is drilled and waiting for studs from another one of our sponsors, Woody's.  We are making good progress compared to last year.  A few more integral parts and the sled will be back on the ground.

King Of Over Kill

Mike has been so busy building his sled that he can't type on his blog, but since I'm at college I'll give you the update on his sled.  Mike is trying to solve the hyfax wear problem that he had last year.  Wahl slides aren't cheap so I don't blame him.  His solution to the problem is an INSANE amount of idler wheels and an INSANE amount of lube outlets.  It may be more than he needs but its garunteed to get the job done.

Lets Do This

Its been a good week.  I got the job that I interviewed for, so now I can reverse my current cash flow situation.  Got some stuff on the sled figured out like stud pattern, what skis to run, etc.  Got our parts from Polaris (we already have more stuff to order though).  Found some much needed items on ebay.  And its getting colder out with snow in the forcast.  I don't expect to riding anytime soon but its nice to know the season is fast approaching.

Swing and a Miss

We got our trailing arms that we bought off ebay today for $1.  They were supposed to be the factory re-inforced Gen II style but they didn't fit and look more like an edge.  They could possibly be off of the first year of the pro x.  Anyways, no luck there.  We also have a Membership meeting this weekend for MIRA.  We will be making the drive up to decide on the classes and format.

Sponsor

We got our contract from Woody's today for our sponsorship.  This will really help cut down on costs because we kill half of our studs/backers each enduro.

Thank You Woody's!

I also have a job interview this week.  Hopefully I get the job so I can afford to keep doing this.  College really makes you wonder if its worth it, but we all know it is.

Reverse Progress

Submitted by Eric on Mon, 2007-10-22 04:37.

Made some more headway this weekend.  First we assembled signs for the snowmobile trail.  We used up every washer within a 10 miles radius of us too.  Then started wokring on the sled again.  Got both trailing arms off and reworked the wiring harness and found multiple issues that we took care of.  Got the powervavles in and now we are waiting for some exhaust gaskets and what not to come in.  The sled gets more bare everyweekend but atleast we're getting something done, alot early than last year too.

Snow Show

Submitted by Eric on Mon, 2007-10-15 04:28.

Went to the Hastings Snow Show/Swap Meet this past weekend, looking for some stuff to buy but more to make room in the speedshop.  We loaded up 3 sleds and a truck bed full of parts.  Came back with all the sleds and too many parts.  We couldn't hardly give the stuff away(Mike started handing things out for free by the end).  We did find some stuff that we needed for dirt cheap, now we just have to find time to put them on the sled.

Reserved our rooms for Soo qualifying today too!  Everytime I hear the word its makes me smile.  Laughing
